DEALING WITH ACNE THROUGH LIFESTYLE AND DIET

Acne breakouts can be controlled with the appropriate lifestyle and diet. A healthy, smooth and acne-free face is achievable with the right lifestyle and diet.

Abeebat glanced at the wall clock. It was 1:05pm. She jumped out of bed. She had just forty minutes to get ready before Aminat's arrival. They had planned to visit her aunt, healthyish, for a consultation on her acne problems. She rummaged through her wardrobe and threw a pair of jeans trousers and a pink flowery chiffon top on the bed. She paired it with a pink silky scarf. She decided against using make-up. She needed her face to be bare so Aminat's aunt could see the extent of her acne problems. She has barely put on her palm slippers when Aminat came.

'Abeebat, we need to hurry o' Aminat stood at the entrance.

'Good afternoon to you too. I am done. Let's go' They left

'I have been waiting for you girls. What took you so long?' Healthyish asked immediately they stepped into her office

'We are sorry aunty. There was traffic. You know Lagos and traffic now' Aminat replied as they took their seat.

'Alright. Let's get to the business of the day without wasting much time' Healthyish began.

Making changes to your diet and lifestyle plays a significant role in dealing with acne as well as improving your skin condition.

 1. Eat balanced diet: Diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats help to fight off acne.

2. Limit consumption of foods that can aggravate acne: Foods such as diary products, sugary foods, foods high in unhealthy fats should be consumed moderately. They can trigger inflammation and worsen acne. Pay attention to foods that trigger acne for you and avoid them.

3. Add acne-fighting foods to your diet: Foods rich in antioxidants like tomatoes, green tea and foods high in Omega-3 fatty acids help to fight acne and maintain a smooth and glowing face.

4. Stay hydrated: Drink enough water throughout the day. Water helps to flush toxins out of the body and also maintain hydration.

5. Exercise regularly: This promotes overall skin health and improves circulation. It also reduces inflammation which in turn improves acne.

6. Get quality sleep: This allows your body to repair and regenerate skin cells. Lack of sleep can lead to hormonal imbalance and inflammation which can contribute to acne breakouts.

7. Employ effective stress management techniques: Stress can trigger hormonal changes and cause acne breakouts. Finding ways to reduce stress can reduce or prevent acne breakouts.

8. Practice good skincare habits: Do not touch your face unnecessarily to avoid transferring bacteria to your face. Gently cleanse your face with a mild cleanser twice a day. Avoid any harsh skincare ingredients that can irritate the skin.

9. Practice good personal hygiene: Wash your hands regularly. Change your bedsheets and pillow cases every two weeks. Clean your skin daily.

Acne breakouts can be controlled with the appropriate lifestyle and diet. A healthy, smooth and acne-free face is achievable with the right lifestyle and diet.
